Embracing Forgiveness

Ornamented historic church interior with pews and altar

This week's message cut straight to the heart: forgiveness is not saying what happened was okay — it is refusing to let what happened keep happening inside you. Bitterness is a chain with two ends, and forgiveness unlocks both.

We were reminded that we forgive because we have been forgiven much. The cross is both the motive and the model: honest about the debt, generous with the pardon. When we release others, we discover that we were the prisoners all along.

First Steps Toward Forgiveness

  • Name the wound — honestly, before God, without minimizing.
  • Release the debt — choose, in prayer, to cancel what is owed.
  • Bless and repeat — pray good for them until your heart follows.
"Forgiveness is setting the prisoner free — and discovering the prisoner was you."
